We are currently responsible for the operation of public car parks in towns and villages across Aberdeenshire, while ‘on-street’ parking enforcement remains the responsibility of Police Scotland. We investigated whether to apply to decriminalise ‘on-street’ parking as a measure that could help to improve the management and vitality of town centres. To assist with this, a consultation was undertaken to seek opinions from town centre users and businesses about town centre parking, as well as information gathering to allow our officers to gain a local understanding of the link between current and proposed parking arrangements and the impact on businesses in town centres.
